Irby Named Regents Professor

Dr. Beverly Irby is one of 13 faculty members recently named as Regents Professors and Regents Fellows.

The Regents Award was established in 1996 to recognize faculty who have made exemplary contributions to their university, the community, the state and the world. It is the highest system-wide honor. Regents Professors are expected to be role models within the system and to devote service to various system-wide activities.

“These awards recognize and honor the exemplary accomplishments and contributions of our faculty, extension or research professionals,” said Elaine Mendoza, Chairman of The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents. “Though they vary in focus and location, these individuals exemplify the commitment to excellence in research and service that sets A&M System employees apart.”

Irby joined the faculty in the college in September 2013 as a professor in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development. She is now associate dean for academic affairs, holder of the Marilyn Kent Byrne Endowed Chair for Student Success, director of the Education Leadership Research Center and co-director of the Center for Research and Development in Dual Language and Literacy Acquisition.

To date, 252 Texas A&M system faculty members have been recognized with the Regents Professor Award, including three from the college.
