Dr. Joshi Selected As 2017 AERA Fellow
Dr. R. Malatesha Joshi, professor of reading education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture is among 14 scholars named 2017 AERA Fellows. The American Educational Research Association (AERA) selected these Fellows on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements.
“I am hopeful that my recognition will give more visibility and recognition to TLAC and the College as departments and the College are generally measured with recognitions like this. It is, perhaps, the highest honor bestowed by distinguished researchers about my research and contributions to educational research,” said Dr. Joshi.
The 2017 Fellows, listed below, were nominated by their peers, selected by the AERA Fellows Committee, and approved by the AERA Council, the association’s elected governing body. They will be inducted on Friday, April 28, during the AERA 2017 Annual Meeting in San Antonio. They join 630 current AERA Fellows.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) is the largest national interdisciplinary research association devoted to the scientific study of education and learning. Founded in 1916, AERA advances knowledge about education, encourages scholarly inquiry related to education, and promotes the use of research to improve education and serve the public good.
The Texas Workforce Commission recently awarded $2.4 million to Dr. Dan Zhang, professor in the Department of Educational Psychology, to implement work-based learning programs in selected high schools.
Tong said her research experience has prepared her to step up and help her colleagues within the department continue their highly-recognized work and commitment to excellence.
