HLKN is the largest academic department at Texas A&M University and generates over 98,000 credit hours and 203,000 (Modified) weighted student credit hours each year.

Throughout the college’s history, it has been a permanent vision, mission and goal to serve children, youth and families with excellence and concern for social justice. The college trains leaders in education and human development and provides continued professional development opportunities. The college and its four departments are committed to developing new opportunities for engagement and strengthening existing initiatives, such as the Center for Disability and Development, the Transdisciplinary Center for Health Equity Research, the Center for Urban School Partnerships and the Texas Center for the Advancement of Literacy and Learning.
