School of Education and Human Development Partners with St. Joseph to Provide Sensory Bags at Graduation Ceremonies

The School of Education and Human Development’s Center on Disability and Development has partnered with St. Joseph Health Therapy to make upcoming graduation ceremonies accessible for persons with sensory sensitivities.

The sensory bags include weighted lap pads, sunglasses, headphones and toys to help guests who may feel overwhelmed during the ceremony.

“Anyone who needs the bags during graduation ceremonies can use them, including both adults and children,” said Mary Muyia of the Center on Disability and Development.  “We wanted to help ensure that everyone entering Texas A&M graduations has the opportunity to have a positive experience,” added Lindsey Armstrong, supervisor of wellness services for St. Joseph Health Therapy Services.

Sensory bags will be available at Guest Services in Reed Arena and may be borrowed free of charge. People borrowing a bag are asked to return them to Guest Services at the end of the ceremony.
