College of Education and Human Development to Co-present Education Award to Texas Superintendent

The College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) will help recognize a Texas superintendent for his distinguished service to education in the state. CEHD’s Department of Educational Administration & Human Resource Development (EAHR) will join the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) in presenting the Golden Deeds award to Northside ISD Superintendent Brian T. Woods, Ph.D.

Each year, EAHR and TASA co-present the award to someone who has improved the educational system in Texas to enrich the lives of all public school students in the state.

A committee of school leaders from across Texas chose Dr. Woods, who has served at Northside ISD in San Antonio since 1992. During that time, he has gone from teaching to serving as a vice principal, principal and deputy superintendent, among other roles. In 2012, Dr. Woods became Northside ISD’s superintendent. He has since won Texas Superintendent of the Year (2018) and been named a finalist for National Superintendent of the Year (2019).

“Dr. Woods has been an outstanding advocate for the students in the Texas public education system throughout his career,” wrote one of his two nominators. “Although his schedule is extremely busy, Dr. Woods regularly makes time to travel to Austin to work directly with legislators on critical issues related to education in Texas,” added his second nominator.

Dr. Woods will receive the Golden Deeds award at the 2023 TASA Midwinter Conference on Jan. 30 in Austin.
