Texas A&M School of Education and Human Development Celebrates Black Excellence in Education and Research


COLLEGE STATION, TX  – The Texas A&M School of Education and Human Development announces its annual Carter-Larke Black History and Education Lecture.

This year’s theme is, “Celebration of Black Excellence: Yesterday, Today & Forever,” and will feature the following four panelists:

  • Ayana Allen-Handy – Associate Professor of Urban Education, Drexel University
  • Fred Bonner II – Professor, Prairie View A&M University
  • Chance Lewis – Distinguished Professor of Urban Education, University of North Carolina at Charlotte
  • Tyrone Tanner – Dean of Office of Graduate Studies, Prairie View A&M University

The Carter-Larke Black History and Education Lecture will take place on Monday, February 27, 2023 in Room 2300 of the Memorial Student Center. Lunch will be provided. The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and will be presented both in-person and online.

The Carter-Larke Black History and Education Lecture series was established in 2017 to continue the legacies of Drs. Norvella Carter and Patricia Larke, two retired professors who founded the specialty fields of multicultural and urban education in our school. The lecture series highlights and celebrates past and present innovators who have transformed the lives of teachers and children through education and research.
