Originally from Dallas, Susan graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended Baylor University before graduating from the University of Texas with a bachelor’s degree in nursing. While a student at the University of Texas, she met Sam, her husband of 45 years on a blind date to an A&M/Texas basketball game (the Aggies won)!In 1985, she and Sam acquired Camp Ozark, a Christian summer camp that Sam attended as a child. They have built Camp Ozark into what is recognized as the best recreational summer camp in the country. The Torns and their adult children all work at Camp Ozark full time, and they are dedicated to providing an incomparable camp experience for young people. In cooperation with the Walton Family Foundation, the Torns oversee Camp War Eagle, a summer camp for underserved children located in Rogers, Arkansas. Susan and Sam are also the founders of Ozone Ministries, a year round mentorship program for middle school and high school students and Ozark For All, a summer camp for underserved children. In 2011, Susan began working toward a master’s degree in health education at Texas A&M, receiving her Aggie ring and graduating in 2013.Susan and Sam have three children – Scott ‘96 and his wife, Secily ‘96, Chris ‘97 and his wife Ceci ‘98, Angela’02 and her husband, Stephan ‘02 and ten wonderful grandchildren.
