Eddie grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. After graduating from Louisiana State University, she moved to Houston where she met and married Joe Mattei. Joe and Eddie were married 51½ years before his death in 2009. They have two children – Braden and Karyn, and three grandsons – Michael Thornton, and Joey and Georgi Saucedo. In 2014, Eddie married Jim Nelson. Eddie is active in the Charity Guild of Catholic Women, she serves as an Extra Ordinary Minister at St. Cecilia Catholic Community, she is past-president of the St. Cecilia Women Club and she is a sustaining member of the Assistance League of Houston. Eddie is a member of the Friends of Sterling Evans Library Board, on the President’s Council of Advisors and the Chancellor’s Century Council. Eddie is a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. Eddie loves to garden, play bridge and exercise. She enjoys traveling, and has seen much of the world with the Traveling Aggies.
