Haynes Teacher Corps
For Leadership, Citizenship and Civic Engagement
The Haynes Teacher Corps (HTC) for Leadership, Citizenship and Civic Engagement is an innovative, four-year leadership and service program for honors-eligible incoming freshmen majoring in education.
Housed in the College of Education and Human Development, HTC is designed to cultivate a new generation of teacher-citizen leaders who are not only classroom-ready, but also prepared to lead with integrity, serve their communities, and drive positive change in schools and society.
In addition to serving eligible freshmen, HTC also provides opportunities for all students in our college by providing unique learning opportunities to develop leadership and civic engagement.

Your Leadership Journey
HTC is intentionally structured around a progressive leadership development model. Each year builds on the next to help you become not just a teacher, but a transformational leader in education.
Year 1: Developing Self
Focus on interpersonal skills, communication, resilience, and peer leadership.
Year 2: Developing Others
Learn to leverage diversity, manage conflict, and develop your leadership philosophy.
Year 3: Developing Teams
Build skills in team building, influencing, and cultivating ethical standards.
Year 4: Developing Organizations
Gain experience in strategic thinking, innovation, and engaging external stakeholders.
Professional Learning Institute
In addition to your coursework, you will gain micro-credentials and hands-on training through HTC’s Professional Learning Institute, featuring workshops on Conflict Resolution & Mediation, Data-Driven Instruction, Innovative Teaching Methods Ethical Decision-Making and Teacher Advocacy.

While HTC mainly seeks incoming freshmen, it also provides opportunities for micro-credentialing and other learning experiences to all students in the College of Education and Human Development.
