Creating Opportunity Through Teamwork
New Texas A&M Nonprofit Partnership Enhances Youth Sport Access for Families
After-school programs and summer camps are more than just playtime for many children, they create connections, a space for growth and the kind of joy that comes from being part of a team. Our Global Youth Sport for Development (GYS4D) Initiative and Center for Sport Management Research and Education (CSMRE) are teaming up with national nonprofit Every Kid Sports to support that growth while reducing financial barriers for families.
The new partnership combines financial support with evidence-based programming and research to help children thrive on and off the field. GYS4D and CSMRE seek to expand Every Kid Sports’ offering of youth sports scholarships for qualifying families to include after-school programs that provide physical activity and support children’s mental and emotional development. “One of our primary objectives is to make sure that all kids and coaches receive this content, regardless of socioeconomic status,” said Dr. Jim Guinn III, executive director of GYS4D. “Through Every Kid Sports, we are able to provide this curriculum to thousands of kids across the country due to their generosity and support.”
GYS4D is a pillar of CSMRE that aims to teach cognitive, coping and relational skills to kids through sports and equips coaches with tools to foster mental, emotional and physical development in young athletes.
