Student Spotlight: Abigail Ahrens ‘24
Aggie Swimmer Balances Olympic and Classroom Aspirations
Abigail Ahrens ’24 has been passionate about swimming since she was six years old. Her dedication has led her to success on the Texas A&M Swimming and Diving team and a chance to compete in June’s U.S. Olympic Trials.
Through our program, Ahrens said she has gained valuable insights into child development and educational strategies, which have inspired her to think creatively about how she will approach teaching her future students. “Something great about the master’s program is that it allows you to discover different parts of education that you wouldn’t have thought about otherwise,” she said.
As the Aggie women’s swim team captain for the past two years, Ahrens credits her coursework for developing the leadership skills she applies both in the pool and plans to implement in her classroom. With her Olympic Trials appearance being her last swim event, Ahrens now looks forward to starting her teaching residency at College Station ISD and applying her skills in a real-world setting while tackling the challenges that come with it.
