Aspiring Coaches Level Up Their Game At State Conference
Six students from our Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy’s Undergraduate Coaching Certificate Program and the Texas A&M University Student Coaches Association enhanced their education and networking by attending the largest coaching convention in the United States.
The 93rd annual Coaching School and Convention hosted by the Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) took place in San Antonio this July, bringing 18,000 coaches and athletic administrators from across the state together for educational opportunities on athletic and safety topics for current and aspiring sport instructors.
Students also had the opportunity to share their resumes and skill sets with prospective hiring institutions from across Texas and the country while learning skills they can immediately put into practice.
“Attending the THSCA coaching convention has led me to feel more driven and inspired than ever before,” said sport management major Alexa Elizondo ’26. “Speaking with coaches who genuinely care about their athletes has helped me understand the value of investing an enormous amount of effort into team culture.”
The students were able to attend the conference thanks to our College’s student impact grant, which is provided by the Texas A&M Association of Former Students.
The Thornton-McFerrin Coaching Academy’s Undergraduate Coaching Certificate Program is now taking applications for fall enrollment until September 30. Learn more and apply by visiting here.
