2017 Award For Excellence In Mathematics Education Recipient Announced
-Dr. Jeremy Kilpatrick has been announced as the recipient of the 2017 Award for Excellence in Mathematics in Education. Kilpatrick, a professor at the University of Georgia, was chosen for his more than 50 years of distinguished and sustained contributions in mathematics education research.

-The College of Education and Human Development is hosting a “Mathematics in Education” workshop April 1-3, 2017. Registration is open until March 3.

New Book Highlights Role Of Education For African American Girls
-The book titled Cultivating Achievement, Respect, and Empowerment for African American Girls in Pre-K-12 Settings (CARE), is written by TLAC professor Dr. Patricia Larke and EAHR Associate Professor Dr. Gwendolyn Webb-Hasan and coincides with their research on the achievement and development of African American youth.

Dr. Joshi Selected As 2017 AERA Fellow
-Dr. R. Malatesha Joshi, professor of reading education in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture is among 14 scholars named 2017 AERA Fellows. The American Educational Research Association (AERA) selected these Fellows on the basis of their notable and sustained research achievements.

Speaker List Confirmed For Voices Of Impact Speaker Series
-The speakers for The College of Education and Human Development’s first Voices of Impact Speaker Series have been confirmed. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at February 16 at 6 p.m. at Cavalry Court in College Station.

Developing High-Impact Leaders: U-STAR’s First Semester
-Four Texas A&M clinical teachers began their residency at Thompson Elementary in Fall 2016 as part of the Urban Student Teacher Advanced Residency (U-STAR) program. U-STAR is a three-year partnership with Spring ISD to help preparing teachers to transition into and thrive within urban schools.

CEHD Dedicates Funds For New Research Collaborations
-The College of Education and Human Development has dedicated $270,000 to fund a third round of Catapult Grants used to enhance quality of life for populations across Texas. CEHD Professor Honored With Prestigious Award
-Dr. Cheryl Craig, professor of teacher education and the Houston Endowment, Inc.’s Endowed Chair of Urban Education, is the latest inductee into her alma mater’s Wall of Fame. The Brandon University Alumni Association (BUAA) presented the award to Dr. Craig during the university’s Homecoming celebration in October.

-English Language Arts and Reading teachers across Texas were able to provide feedback for the latest revision to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), the state’s curricular standards, thanks to a partnership between the Texas Council for Teachers of English Language Arts (TCTELA) and the College of Education and Human Development’s Education Research Center (ERC) at Texas A&M University.
