Dean’s Excellence Scholar Addresses K-12 School Performance
Dr. Chance W. Lewis, an expert in urban education, delivered a lecture on how major research universities can help improve the performance of K-12 schools in large metropolitan cities. Our Dean’s Excellence Scholar of Urban Education in Residence spoke at Rudder Forum on November 8, 2023 as part of CEHD’s Dean’s Distinguished Lecture series.
Dr. Lewis has been an educator for nearly 30 years. He is the Carol Grotnes Belk Distinguished Professor of Urban Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Dr. Lewis has authored or contributed to over 100 publications and 30 books on urban education and is the Executive Director of UNC-Charlotte’s Urban Education Collaborative, which publishes research on improving urban schools. He is also a former Houston Endowed Chair and Associate Professor of Urban Education at Texas A&M.
As Dean’s Excellence Scholar of Urban Education in Residence this semester, Dr. Lewis will work with graduate students on research in our Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture (TLAC). “I look forward to working with students in CEHD to provide a pathway to new opportunities that I have access to that will allow their research and practice contributions to be transformative for urban schools in large metropolitan cities,” Dr. Lewis said. “I’m excited about the possibilities!”
