Generous Donation Establishes “Problem Posing For Pre-Service Math Teachers” Gift

Sue Ellen ’81 and Phillip T. Miner, III ’84 committed $225,000 over the next three years to establish the Problem Posing for Pre-Service Elementary Math Teachers gift.

Under Dr. Mary Margaret Capraro, the training program will be developed for pre-service teachers during their senior methods semester. Program participants will engage 2nd – 5th grade students in small groups to work on research-based problem posing activities. Pre- and post-test measures will be taken to determine the growth of student knowledge in areas of problem solving and problem posing.

The gift will be used to fund graduate students who will be teaching courses and overseeing the undergraduate students in the program.
