Dr. Nafukho Awarded Fellowship For Carnegie Program
-EAHR Professor and Department Head Dr. Fred Nafukho was awarded a fellowship by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. In Fall 2017, Dr. Nafukho will work at Kenya’s Kenyatta University in the newly established Innovation, Research, and Outreach Unit.

Professor Leads New Parenting Class At Local Prison
-A number of HLKN representatives have spearheaded a new parenting class for inmates at the Bryan Federal Prison Camp. The class is a result of the continuing partnership between the College of Education and Human Development and the prison to focus on different needs for its female inmates.

CEHD Professor Honored With Prestigious Award
-Dr. Cheryl Craig, professor of teacher education and the Houston Endowment, Inc.’s Endowed Chair of Urban Education, is the latest inductee into her alma mater’s Wall of Fame. The Brandon University Alumni Association (BUAA) presented the award to Dr. Craig during the university’s Homecoming celebration in October.

Dean Alexander Featured As Keynote Speaker In Taiwan
-CEHD Dean Dr. Joyce Alexander was invited to give two talks in Taiwan sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology. In both of her speeches, Dr. Alexander addressed pervasive issues facing the support of STEM interests beginning in early childhood.

$5.5M In Grants Focused On Improving Education For English Language Learners
