Aggie’s Journey in Kinesiology Improves Community Well-being

Pursuing kinesiology has been a lifelong dream for Ella Cole ’26, and she discovered her passion after her grandfather fell and fractured his femur. “Through his recovery process, I saw how exercise and rehabilitation helped him regain his strength, confidence and independence,” she said.

While shadowing across multiple physical therapy (PT) clinics, Cole experienced how care and encouragement shape a patient’s journey. She recalled connecting with a nursing home patient who was relearning to walk with a prosthetic, a bond that strengthened her approach to care. “I acknowledged his frustration and reminded him of the strides he had already made,” she said. “Seeing his mood lift showed me how celebrating small wins helps patients push through physical and emotional barriers.”

In our Department of Kinesiology & Sports Management, Cole is building the fundamentals of human movement, adaptation to exercise and evidence-based therapeutic interventions. “I’m learning how to design rehabilitation programs that match each patient’s needs, which aligns with my clinical observations,” Cole said. “Our College’s resources, engaging courses and supportive culture help me explore my interests and put me on the path to excel.”

The Langston Terry-Ammon Underwood College of Education Endowed Scholarship has also benefited Cole’s journey by allowing her to focus on her studies and take on professional opportunities to enhance her readiness for clinical practice. “The scholarship has boosted my confidence, encouraged leadership and opened doors for personal growth,” she said. Cole adds that she’s grateful for the donors’ support in students like her and says it inspires her to give back.

These experiences guide Cole toward strengthening community wellness. She strives to become a physical therapist specializing in sports or prosthetics to treat patients with compassion, respect and patience. “It takes hard work and dedication for anyone considering kinesiology, but it’s incredibly rewarding,” Cole said. “With a passion for helping others have healthy and high-quality lives, you will make a positive impact every day.”
