Commitment to Empowering Veterans
Our Veterans’ Coaching Program is dedicated to supporting those who have served in our military while addressing the coaching shortage in Texas and nationwide. Housed in our Department of Kinesiology and Sport Management, the program pairs qualified candidates enrolled at Texas A&M University with coaching and athletic leadership positions while they work towards coaching certification.
The program has also grown to incorporate more transition services for active-duty military members, veterans and their dependents. These services help participants transition from military life and identify how to best pursue their passion. Current and past participants have pursued a variety of fields, from athletics and strength & conditioning to business and doctoral degrees. Many of our participants are also using their experience as leaders and role models for other students in the classroom. “I’ve got these 20 and 30-year veterans coming into the classroom, and they’re learning from their leadership, how to do presentations, how to study, how to properly prepare for things — how to lead,” said Nate Young, Veterans Coaching Program Director. “It makes a difference, and everybody wins.”
