CEHD Partners to Honor Superintendent’s Career of Advocacy and Growth

Our Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development (EAHR) will join the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) to present this year’s Golden Deeds Award to longtime Dallas-area Superintendent Doug Williams.

EAHR and TASA co-present the award each year to someone who significantly impacts the lives of public school students and Texas education throughout their careers.

Williams was an educator for 36 years, starting as a teacher and coach before becoming an administrator. During his 16 years as superintendent of Sunnyvale ISD, he oversaw the most significant growth in the district’s history. Williams led multiple successful bond packages and tax ratification efforts to fund new campuses and athletic facilities for Sunnyvale ISD.

As a leader in TASA, Williams served as legislative chair and championed school finance reform and greater accountability for schools across Texas. He also served as TASA president during the 2021-22 school year, when he traveled across the state to help schools overcome the impact from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Williams retired in 2023 but continues to work with school boards and administrators as a TASA Executive Superintendent. His focus remains on moving Texas public education toward preparing students for today’s world rather than high-stakes testing.

Williams will receive the Golden Deeds Award at the 2025 TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin on Monday, January 27.
