SEHD To Help Recognize Longtime Texas Education Advocate

Our School’s Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development (EAHR) will join the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) in presenting James B. Crow with the Golden Deeds Award.

Each year, EAHR and TASA co-present the honor to an individual from any profession whose contributions improved the educational system in Texas to enrich the lives of all public school students in the state.

A committee of educational leaders across the state selected Crow for his nearly 40 years of service to Texas Education. For over 25 years, he advocated for students at the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB), serving in several roles, including CEO and Executive Director. During that time, TASB saw unprecedented growth and was considered a top education advocacy nonprofit in the state.

In 1997, then-Governor George W. Bush appointed Crow commissioner of the Education Commission of the States. In 2010, the Texas Supreme Court appointed him as a Children, Youth and Families Education Committee member.

To commemorate his retirement and accomplishments, TASB created the James B. Crow Innovation in Governance Award to recognize education professionals who carry on his vision of improving student education through school leadership.

Crow will receive the Golden Deeds Award at the 2024 TASA Midwinter Conference in Austin on Monday, January 29.
