Dr. Claire Katz Appointed TLAC Department Head
Dr. Claire Katz has been appointed department head of our School’s Department of Teaching, Learning & Culture (TLAC) after serving as interim department head for over a year. CEHD Dean Michael A. de Miranda made the announcement this week, calling Dr. Katz a true leader and difference maker for the school. “Under Dr. Katz’s leadership, TLAC has remained a premier department in teacher production in Texas,” said de Miranda.
Katz has been an educator for over 35 years, serving at Texas A&M University since 2006. She directs Philosophy for Children (P4C) at Texas A&M, which includes philosophy camps and lessons for high school students, middle school students and children as young as four. She is also one of three national finalists for the prestigious 2024 Robert Foster Cherry Award for Great Teaching from Baylor University.
“As interim department head, I have had the opportunity to become better acquainted with the faculty and staff in this department. I am so impressed with not only their scholarship/creative activities and their teaching but also their collegiality and willingness to step up and help,” said Katz. “I am so excited to work with my colleagues on all the projects and initiatives on the horizon.”
