The WORDS Project: SEHD Researcher’s Partnership To Enhance Literacy

The WORDS Project: SEHD Researcher’s Partnership To Enhance Literacy
January 2, 2024 Travis Bowles

Dr. Marc Goodrich of our Department of Teaching, Learning and Culture has partnered with multiple universities in the U.S. to help increase literacy in rural schools. The Workshops on Reading Development Strategies (WORDS) Project seeks to help improve reading skills for K-3rd-grade students in Nebraska through better professional development, training and support for teachers and schools across the state.

According to a report from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the WORDS project has already reached more than 2,500 children in the state and most participating schools saw improvements in student literacy after one year. The project is a grant initiative funded by the Institute of Education Sciences and the Nebraska Department of Education.
