-The speakers for The College of Education and Human Development’s first Voices of Impact Speaker Series have been confirmed. The event, which is open to the public, will be held at February 16 at 6 p.m. at Cavalry Court in College Station.

Dr. Dirani’s New Book Gives Insight Into Cultural Leadership
-In January Associate Professor Dr. Khalil Dirani published a book titled Leadership Development in Emerging Market Economies. In the book, Dr. Dirani and his co-authors explain how the book’s message is to help fellow educators understand the meaning of leadership and what it’s like throughout other countries.

CEHD Dedicates Funds For New Research Collaborations
-The College of Education and Human Development has dedicated $270,000 to fund a third round of Catapult Grants used to enhance quality of life for populations across Texas. The nine grants feature collaborations between each department in the college as well as other colleges across Texas A&M University.

Dr. Krista Bailey Appointed As New SAAHE Director
-Student Affairs in Higher Education Administration (SAAHE) has appointed Clinical Associate Professor Dr. Krista Bailey as its new program director. Dr. Bailey’s past work in the SAAHE program contributes to the insight she plans to bring to the position.

CEHD Receives Second I3 Grant Of $12M
-Thanks to a $12 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education, faculty scholars in the College of Education and Human Development will begin a five-year study focused on best practices in literacy-infused science for English language learners and economically challenged middle school students in rural, suburban, and urban school districts across Texas.

Dr. Nafukho Awarded Fellowship For Carnegie Program
-EAHR Professor and Department Head Dr. Fred Nafukho was awarded a fellowship by the Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship Program. In Fall 2017, Dr. Nafukho will work at Kenya’s Kenyatta University in the newly established Innovation, Research, and Outreach Unit.

-The U.S. Department of Education, Office of English Language Acquisition (OELA), recently awarded four grants totaling more than $10,000,000 to seven affiliates from the Texas A&M University Bilingual Education Programs and the Center for Research and Development in Dual Language and Literacy Acquisition (CRDLLA.)

Dr. Christine Mark Achieves CEHD Exemplary Distance Educator
-Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Christine Mark has achieved the CEHD Exemplary Distance Educator title after meeting the highest standards required by Quality Matters. Under the Quality Matters guidelines, Dr. Mark can now design additional online courses that will create an online driven learning experience for online students.

$5.5M In Grants Focused On Improving Education For English Language Learners
-The U.S. Department of Education recently awarded faculty from the Bilingual Program in the Department of Educational Psychology and the Educational Administration Program in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development two five-year grants totaling $5.5 million. The grants will fund teacher professional development for educators working with English language learners (ELLs) and to research its effects.

Dr. Irby Inducted As ISDDE Fellow
-Dr. Beverly Irby was inducted as a fellow into the International Society for Design and Development in Education (ISDDE) Monday at the organization’s annual meeting in Utrecht, Amsterdam. The organization is a select group of scholars from across the world dedicated to raising the quality in design of educational processes and materials.

School Enhancement Project Focuses On Improving Houston-Area Schools
-More than 1,500 school campuses in Texas are deemed low performers according to this year’s Public Education Grant from the Texas Education Agency. Eight of those schools are the focus of a research project by two professors in the Department of Educational Administration and Human Resource Development (EAHR) and Dr. Joyce Alexander, dean of the College of Education and Human Development.
